Royal Mail – Callum Plant Remixes

DEAD CERT. Records is a label linked to the well known website deathtechno.com ran by Jack! Who? in the UK. A diverse palette has seen their previous releases feature music from artists including Audio Injection / Truncate, Hans Bouffmyhre, Joachim Spieth, Miss Sunshine, DJ Spider and Eomac to name but a few.

“Royal Mail” is the new celebratory series to coincide with the labels 4th birthday this year, enlisting a particular artist to create new remix impressions from the labels back catalogue of original music.

DEAD CERT. favourite Callum Plant from Manchester (UK) is the product of a thriving Techno scene and he continues to be on the rise after music released on Lex Gorrie’s Unknown Territory, Ill Bomb Records in New York and Floor Ready in Scotland amongst others.

XHEI is known for quality Techno visions that has found his music land on CLR, Sleaze, Micro.fon, Illegal Alien and many more. Callum adds a signature stomping beat to an already heavily rotated track, where “Requiem” has picked up support from Alan Fitzpatrick, Tommy Four Seven, Sam Paganini and many more.

Belarusian artist Energun known for works on Rebekah’s Decoy and beyond released a four track EP called Psychology in 2014 and Callum takes on “Developmental” with a fierce and pulsating energy adding suspense and eerie atmospherics. The main hook is transformed into a gritty and swirling rave fuelled synth that evokes plenty of aural pleasure that is sure to devastate dancefloors.

Regular DEAD CERT. contributions from TMM Records owner Vegim have been highly regarded, including the Signal Handling EP that featured a huge remix by Affin’s Joachim Spieth of “Digital Fracture.” A tough groove uses elements of the original to set the scene in part, allowing Callum’s own stamp to take shape with a completely new and unique interpretation that has some extra hypnotic angles.

The final rework is a track exclusive to the labels first vinyl release and featuring the label bosses themselves. William Welt collaborating with Jack! Who? the Editor of deathtechno.com on “Lurker” where Callum gives it a grooving, dubby twist with a broken beat and scything synths.

Etapp Kyle – Continuum EP

I first came across Etapp Kyle some months ago. I really liked the track “Sakura” on his “Klockworks 16” EP. Just listened to it again, I think I have to get that one, too. Anyway, some days ago I listened to the previews of his “Continuum EP”. What can I say, I love all 4 tracks and straight got the vinyl at kompakt. I’ll definitely follow this guy, I’m sure there’s more to come.

As with his previous releases Etapp Kyle captures his playful, multi-layered Techno endeavours with single-word track titles: Continuum EP starts off with “Opto”, an atmospheric track with fazing bleeps, ensouled synths and subdued claps – a prime example of his great feel for musical detail. “Ahora” builds upon this vibe with more asynchronous drum patterns, well placed drips of melody, distant pulses, mesmerizing pads and hints of rattles amongst other percussion.

The EPs title track “Continuum” is distinctive through its use of industrial hammer jabs and reduced, puzzling synth pads that are counteracted by a more dominant, steady and stubborn kick drum. “Limb” contrasts unconventional pulsating, hypnotic synth tones with sharp claps and snare sounds, and rounds off this 12“ of all new, puristic and futurist Techno, catering as much to the darker corners as to the brightest spots of the dance floor.

Robert S – Moderna

Madeira-born Robert S makes his Konstruktiv debut after appearances on Sleaze, Arts, Planet Rhythm and his own Robert Limited imprint.

Moderna is straight shooting techno, hard-hitting with hints of rolling funk and a bleak contrast to the sun-drenched Portuguese setting that saw its inception.

The synth stabs of EP opener Moderna steadily rise and open up, driving the track forward while low-slung drums keep the beat in check. Label-boss Rekord 61 drops in on A2 with his remix of the title-track. The original stabs take an aerial backseat and a compact beat powers through vapor and wear.

Trilha Acida sets things straight from the first second on the flip. A threatening acid line pummels the listener with mechanical consistency while a startling chord rehearses a monosyllabic monologue. Black Jocker, the fourth and final cut closes on a dystopian note, with austere drums and a dark souvenir triggering arpeggiator.

Tom Hades – Subbed / Hotel Devon

tom-hades

Belgium Techno DJ and Producer, Tom Hades returns with his highly anticipated two-track solo EP ‘Subbed’ on his much lauded imprint, Rhythm Converted after a short hiatus over the autumn/winter months.

“There are approximately 30 tracks waiting to be send out to selected labels. After many years of releasing on a constant base, I decided to take a few steps back in 2015 to gain more exclusivity for 2016. We live in a time where there is so much music available by established and new producers, the only way to stand out is to focus on the exclusive labels. In the meantime the studio has had mayor makeover, we improved the acoustics, added new hardware (Moog: Sub 07 & Taurus & Mother 32 & Slim Phatty, Elektron Series and Waldorf: Blofeld & Pulse & Streichfett) and bought a Allen & Heath GL2800 studio mixer to let my creativity flourish in every possible way.”

Gemini Voice Archive – Encuentro

gemini-voice-archive-encuentro-soma
After a highly successful debut year for the Gemini Voice Archive duo returns to Soma in early 2016 with 3 more blistering Techno tracks Encuentro, Ancient Astronauts & Atmospheric Circulation.

This bold EP from the mysterious duo further cements their place within the new roster at Soma as their well produced sound goes up another notch and delves even darker. My favourites are Atmospheric Circulation and the title track
