VRV is the new Droid Behavior label headed by Raíz and Subversive. Cored is the label’s first release.

At the center of anything lies its core. Whether mechanical, organic, global, or human, the core presents an essence around which objects and systems unfold. This EP is the inaugural seed of the VRV concept. Four tracks here display varying degrees of aggressive, essential techno, with stripped-down elements containing measured amounts of grit, power and depth. The EP’s use of tension and dynamics continues to propel the music forward, building to an epic finale, a great closer.

Bowly presents DÐD & MTSP – Red Right Nighter

It’s been three years since Montreal producer Bowly released his debut EP on Berkane Sol to great fanfare, so this scorching follow-up on Fur Trade has been a long time coming. Bowly presents DÐD & MTSP comprises of two new directions for the producer.

The A-side by MTSP is one for the streets, with lead track by “Red Right Nighter” delivering a pitched-down evolution of his UK Funky calling card that borrows equal parts reggaeton swagger and Balaeric tempos. Meanwhile on “MTSP1”, omnipresent drum machines turn that funky twitch into a slow-cruising electro nighttime drive.

On the flip, DÐD digs deep into Berlin-flavoured warehouse techno. “Tristan” exercises the darker fringes of a muscular 303 bassline in propulsive 4am fashion. Meanwhile, finisher “Siula Grande” turns those very acid ingredients skyward, toward the kosmische stars.

With an A-side competing with the most exciting evolutions of an ever-changing UK scene, and the flip leaning toward Europe’s techno mainland, Bowly’s return showcases a fully armed producer who has spent the past three years absorbing a tremendous amount of exploratory music, and coming out of it able to produce any which way he wants.

Patrik Skoog – Exit Earth

Patrik Skoog Exit EarthExit Earth is Patrik Skoog’s first solo album under his own name. He has released on Drumcode as Patrik Skoog, but it is as Agaric that he is best known. As Agaric he has released tracks on his We Are label and on Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings (the album Who Made Up The Rules in 2011). As Agaric, Patrik inhabited a more Housier planet. With Exit Earth he has produced one of 2013’s best Techno albums.

Exit Earth is a Techno album. Purely electronic. It is intentionally forward thinking, not retrospective. It is inspired by the twin space crafts Voyager 1 and 2 sent out by NASA in the late 70s on interstellar missions, which up to and beyond the very day of recording this album have been exploring the planetary systems of Jupiter, Saturn and the outer reaches of our solar system.

Third Ear Recordings is proud to release Exit Earth. It is imaginative. It is beautifully written, played and produced. It reminds us how much we love Techno. Previews are available here.
